We have hosted High School exchange students for 12 years, with students from Brazil, China, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. After 30 years of shift work as an FAA Air Traffic Controller, I am now working a normal work week (M-F) training new controllers for the FAA. My husband Kris is a former Coast Guard pilot that now works from our home office as a Technology Consultant and a Catholic Deacon. We are very well traveled outside of the US and enjoy experiencing other cultures. We have three grown children with the youngest still in school to become a veterinarian and our middle child working as a technician at the airport with me.

House rules

After 12 years, we have well established guidelines and rules ... where are some of the highlights: During the school/work week, you will be on your own to make breakfast and pack a school lunch if you are not buying lunch at school. Tell us if you have any specific food that you would like for this. Rebecca will normally be home after 4:00 pm and Kris usually finishes working after 5:30 pm. Dinner is usually between 5:30 and 6:30 pm. If you are unable to make the family mealtime, please notify Rebecca or Kris as soon as possible. You may need to re-heat your food in the microwave when you get home. We will try to provide healthy snacks, such as the fruit bowl, that will be available at any time. Quiet time begins at 10:00 pm until 6:00 am the next morning to allow family members to sleep. Curfew for school nights (Sunday through Thursday night) is 10:00 pm. Curfew for the weekend is 11:00 pm. If you need to stay out after curfew, you must notify Rebecca or Kris ahead of time. Lights should be off by midnight unless you tell Rebecca or Kris that you need extra time to study. If we are home and you let us know in advance, you may invite your friends to the house (or dinner if you tell us before we start preparing it). Absolutely no one is allowed at the house without prior permission, especially if we are not home. You are responsible for keeping your room picked up and helping to keep the bathroom clean. We may periodically ask for help with other chores, such as taking out the trash, stripping the bed, straightening up the kitchen, loading or emptying the dishwasher. Always have your cell phone with you. Keep talk/voice time on it with a full battery and be sure to let us know where you are and whom you are with (especially if plans have changed from what you previously told us).
